We call these bone-colored crescent moon earrings Hestia, after the Greek Goddess by the same name. Hestia was a hearth deity. So long as her followers showed her regular devotion (usually by toasting her at the beginning and end of meals), she would bless them with a permanent sanctuary and a peaceful domestic existence. Animal sacrifices made in her name would ensure ample nourishment during the cold months in the form of food storage and warmth. If her followers neglected to make offerings to her, she would cause instability in the household.
